How to Master the EOS.IO Go API Library

May 20, 2018 / by Alexandre Bourget

The global EOS hackathon, Hack Til Dawn is beginning very soon. To help teams all around the world code faster, EOS Canada is happy to offer up the eos-go Golang package, the first toolkit to interact with the EOS.IO blockchain in Go.

There is a need for more languages to be supported for developers who want to use the EOS.IO platform to build decentralized applications and interact with smart contracts. As active members of the Golang community, Alexandre Bourget - also a lead organizer of Golang Montreal - and the team at EOS Canada set out to develop a fully fledged Golang Library.

EOS Canada sponsored a Meetup on May 7th, 2018 in Montreal, where Alexandre demonstrated the library. We felt it best to create an example of a smart contract that could be used to help a business create an employee incentivization program. And the Shine project was born - a way to help your peers’ great work shine. It was inspired by Unicorn, the social media reward program developed by Shopify.

Here’s a video of the presentation. Hope you enjoy!

EOS Canada is a block producer candidate for the EOS network, offering unique tools to help the community make the most of the EOS Network. The team at EOS Canada will offer on-going support during and after the EOS hackathon through its Telegram channel to those who need help integrating Golang into their work with EOS.

Alexandre lives through technology. He wrote his first botnet at 12, later graduated in classical piano and went on to a prolific career in software engineering, with notable open source contributions. Alexandre co-founded two startups, including Bitcredits (a bitcoin payments processor, FounderFuel 2014 Spring Cohort). He then helped PasswordBox (acquired by Intel) craft their data stack and ended up as a lead Data Scientist in the Intel Security Consumer division. Today, Alexandre is very active in the blockchain space, advising several early stage companies. Alexandre taught programming for many years. He does live-coding presentations like no one else (Confoo, PyCon conferences) and is the lead organizer of Golang Montréal. You’ll often find him on Telegram, working through lines of code and bugs with others, doing what he can to help build the EOS community.
